This three hour History of Chicago Music 1908-1980 runs from the very earliest recordings until just short of the development of house music in the early 80s. You will be wanting a different compilation for that.

The James Reese Europe CD shown has somehow appeared in the searches since he last appeared on this blog. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t to be found when I did the Hellfighters post, yet Amazon claims that it was released in 1996. Hrmmm.
