Kevin Coyne – Marjory Razorblade

Amongst the (unusually worthwhile) comments, the following (which turns out to be from a 2003 Guardian 100 Best Albums You Have Never Heard) is quoted:

Eastbourne Ladies flashing their knickers; Jackie in his boarding house, paper hat on head, pining for Edna, his love long gone. Lives played out in the shadow of the mental hospital on the hill where Coyne once worked. Max Wall singing the blues. A desolate, desperate, beautiful scrapbook of stories, a scuffed blues bestiary spat out by England’s Gogol, the Bard of Derby, Kevin Coyne, dead at 60, coughing his lungs up, missed like mad.

Jeff Young

I’ve actually stumbled across a youtube comment thread that doesn’t suck! I was beginning to wonder if I’d ever write that particular sentence. It’s polite, informative and emotionally affecting by turns. Remarkable.

My comment about the comments refers to the first dozen posts or so [in case you're coming across this in the hereafter, when it's all covered in spam or whatever]

[UPDATE: Neglected to mention this is Hyde Park, 1974]

No coincidence it’s a cut above most YouTube comment threads; a few familiar names there!

Good to hear Kevin again; an honest, genuine, original perfomer, and missed like mad just as Jeff says. A great find, cheers.
