Gregory Barsamian’s Persistence of Vision

The Athanasius Kircher Society returns from a fortnight’s summer hiatus with some extraordinary and ingenious animated sculpture by Gregory Barsamian. A sequence of complex three-dimensional forms are fixed to a rapidly rotating armature, and viewed under stroboscopic lights. Barsamian’s site does just about enough to give an idea of how the sculptures work, but falls tantalisingly short of conveying what they must be like to experience in person. I’d be interested to hear what they sound like, too…
