a novelty choking hazard

The Blogging Ecosystem (revisited); the ‘todo’ category…

Here’s another site I’ve not visited in a very long time. I’m amazed to see that, despite the years of neglect (both of them), enthusiasm is still on the scale at The Truth Laid Bear’s Blogging Ecosystem, appropriately enough, under the category Flippery Fish – which is to say that we’re in the #10,000 to #12,500 range – exactly one ranking point behind Ian Penman, as it happens. The top 100 blogs listing makes very depressing reading these days: very few of the old faces are in evidence, and their places seem to have been taken up by the wingnut tendency. Just scanning over a few hundred blog titles in a list so long, it might just as wel be endless, that you can almost taste the bile. Ew. Ah well.
In the fullness of time, enthusiasm will itself/himself/myself undertake some kind of loathsome charm offensive – the idea being to get evolved up the ecosystem. I did write, “to get evolved into something at least warm-blooded”, but you have to be in the top 5,700 to be considered warm-blooded, and with the best will in the world, I cannot imagine this blog ever being that popular…
(UPDATE: I just tripped over the post with figures from back when enthusiasm first appeared on the ecosystem. Two clicks under the top freaking five hundred! It hardly needs pointing out that the blogosphere has become an immeasurably bigger place since then. Which reminds me, I must go and see if I can find a ticker to indicate new blogs coming into existence – this is coming back around to the ClustrMaps idea from yesterday… was it really yesterday? The day before, it seems. All is flux. Blog posts from here on can avail themselves of the ‘todo’ category, which allows me to see, at the proverbial glance, exactly what I have announced to the world that I “must” do, make, say, think about. ..eep.)
