On sober reflection, I should have realised that heaving five years worth of bloggage from one platform into another was always going to be a gruelling business, at the very least. The current situation is that the Import script has begun to work, with extreme reluctance, and is picking up about 30 posts each time I run it. So far I have all of October and some of November 2001 has made it through the plumbing, and I’ve been busy adding titles and tags to the posts (Blogger didn’t do either of those things, back then), then deleting them from the Blogger blog. Thankfully the material that is making it over is pretty well-formed so far. I can’t help but wish that I hadn’t been so prolific and eclectic back in the early days.
I already knew that Blogger’s interface sucked, but I hadn’t realised how mightily it sucked until I started into this. I’m having to search for keywords in each individual post from the early days and delete them individually, because it is otherwise impossible to look back more than 300 posts. Gaaagh. No bulk actions on posts either, Double gaaagh.
I’m also wondering how many different category tags I”m going to wind up with when all this is over. But that promises to be months away, and I’m not going to worry about it…
