Craig Jensen has an impressive collection of Hoagy Carmichael links posted today, including a stream of a 1947 recording of his most successful composition, Stardust – for years and years the most recorded song in popular music – and another of the first recording of the song from 1927. My favourite versions? Artie Shaw and Timi Yuro ( I was going to do a name-the-artiste thing with the latter version, but realised just in time what it would do to my bandwidth costs…)
Might I add that it’s a treat to have Craig posting other things besides excoriating the WMPC? – not that it didn’t need doing, and not that it doesn’t need doing some more yet, but Booknotes was getting a little grim for a while there, and now it’s back on form again, for which I rejoice…
